Doctor of the Forbidden Arts

"What I do is not magic. It is simply understanding... of flesh, of blood, of the delicate balance between life and death."

Appearance:

Veil, cloaked in shadow and mystery, moves with a quiet grace. Her ashen skin constrasts with her black hair; often bound in an unkempt ponytail while she works.
Piercing violet eyes, sharp as a surgeons scalpel, miss nothing. They appear haunted, intelligent, and oddly hypnotic. Inky, intrictate tattoos of dark vines coil, weave and twist over her lithe form, fading to solid black darker than death that stretches across her forearms and fingertips.
When necessity calls, Veil dons a plague doctor's mask, concealing the woman beneath and ensuring nothing but the ghoulish image she wishes to display remains prevalent.Veil is often accompanied by a strange entity; dark, monotonous-blue messy feathers cover the rounded body, leaving only a single, beady, otherworldly eye staring into the souls of those who cross the Doctor's path. Where it came from, and its purpose, are answers that are left to be wondered and desired.

HOOKS

"A pity... this world is full of such fleeting beauties. A single breath, a single heartbeat, and then... nothing.."

TRANSACTIONAL FORBIDDEN MAGIC"There is always a cost for healing. Whether it is through money, time or aether. Which are you willing to trade? Think carefully now, your choice will always have a consequence..."
--
Veil dabbles in the forbidden art of White Magic and Blood Magic. Whilst many would and want for her services, the price for such potent and speedy healing always comes at a grave cost. To give aether to heal, one must take aether from something else. A beautiful balance must always be struck. Are you willing to give something up to cease your suffering? How much are you willing to sacrifice?

MORBID CURIOSITIES"A grave is simply the end of one story... and, if one knows the right words, the beginning of another..."
--
Whilst professionalism is a high priority for Veil, that does not mean that morals can never be bent. The Doctor has an obsession with the balance of life and death and how much that can be bent, and will prey on the vulnerable and those suffering in order to see how far the boundaries of life can be pushed.
Veil is hireable for her magic, but also offers pro-bono healing for those desperate enough to give up their autonomy for further research.

ONCE ESTEEMED, NOW FEARED"I do not believe in luck. Only fate. And fate is a cruel seamstress, stitching our lives together with frayed thread."
--
Dr. Noir was once part of the list of trusted healers in the three city states, but her interests strayed too far for the Society's comfort. After discovering the use of forbidden techniques and magic, Veil was dismissed from the Healer's Society and blacklisted as a dangerous entity and not to be hired or approached. She spends her time in the shadows, spreading the word of her accolades and healing offerings through quiet whispers. You will not find her on the streets peddling her expertise, Veil is often found only through word of mouth unless approached by her directly.

WHISPERS FROM THE WEEPING CITY"They say Mhach fell to its own ambition. I say it fell because the world was too small minded to understand it."
--
Veil spent summers researching the Weeping City of Mhach. Her interest stemmed from the understanding of magic, in particular the balance of life, death and the Void. Unlike those who fear Mhach magic, Veil strives to uncover its truths, with a firm belief that knowledge itself is neither good nor evil.
The Doctor will spend a lot of her time scouring ruins, lost text and Sharlayan archives in an attempt to glean remnants of their wisdom.

FURTHER HOOKS"The Void does not simply take. It offers. It bargains. The Mhachi understood this well -- though I wonder, did they ever regret what they paid?"
--
Veil can be encountered in many ways, including but not limited to:
- Interested scholars and students wanting to pick at her brain.- Gravely injured characters seeking assistance in healing no matter the cost.- Other occultist healers, including those with an interest in Mhachi and Amdaporian research.- A simple joined interest in morbid subjects. Cabinets of curiosities. The philosophy of life and death and the balance between them both.- Other taboo White Mages (the illegal kind). Veil's healing comes at a cost of aether, the more aether taken, the more potent the healing. This is highly destructive and dangerous magic and why it is banned by many. For example, one may have multiple broken bones and crushing wounds. The cost, to fix this quickly, would be a price of an abundance of aether.
How one offers that aether is up to them: this could result in a vaccuum of aetherless void lingering in their home, unable to be touched or lived in again, where dynamis likely takes over and risks an imbalance and people wandering into that area to turn into a blasphemy. It could also be a simple, yet morbid transaction of one life to help another. Veil will not turn a blind eye if one wants to heal rapidly at the cost of their family pet, for example.

"A picture of me? Oh, darling... make sure it's a good one - it may be the last image you see.."

OOC

"They call it corruption, but what is darkness, truly? A force. A presence. A tool, like any other... if one has the will to wield it."

Hello!Thank you so much for taking the time to read this little carrd. Here's a little tidbit of info about me:I am 30 years old, married, working full time and an illustrator and based in the UK.My roleplay style is mixed. I have little limits and am into more mature themes of writing (excluding ERP). Whilst sexual tension is nice in writing, please do not expect to get any smut from me or my character. All scenes, if it ever gets to that point, will FTB.
I tend to match RP styles, from quick-fire conversational writing to multi-para writing. Lore bending within the world of FFXIV is a-okay with me, but world breaking is not.
Communication is key. If you're uncomfortable with something, let me know. This character delves into the more darker themes of writing and more senstive subjects. Be warned, and please tell me if you have any hard boundaries! You will likely not find this character in an open RP setting. I have created her for some flavor for people to add to their stories and character's lives if they feel she fits their themes.Unfortunately I am in the UK, so my times are vastly different. RP is encouraged through Discord for this reason.Mare is encouraged to see Veil with all of her quirks and outfits, but not wholly necessary. Please feel free to chat and throw questions at me, I promise I don't bite. <3

Yes, I take commissions. :)
